Darkness wraps me in its arms, safe, cold.
Eyes half closed, but still seeing the shadowed world about me.
Night clear as day, my world.
My wrist burns, stinging at the steel yet welcoming it.
Parting my flesh, it feels good – I'm alive.
Slick and wet the blade falls from my grip,
Yet, this is not death – but life.
I bow my head, still troubled at what I am,
But doing what I must to keep the beast at bay.
The first taste still shocks me, yet I welcome it.
I craved this, yet didn’t know it.
My soul sang out the truth of what I am.
And I heard.
